It’s CARNIVAL DAY!

It’s been a lot of hard work, but the day’s finally here!  Let’s make it a fantastic day for everyone!

Make sure you know where the car parks are.  Don’t get caught out by the road closures.  Bring your costumes.  Sing to the music.  Get ready for fun!

With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore

Twas the night before Carnival, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The costumes were hung by the front door with care,
In hopes that the Parade soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of fairgrounds danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long summer’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the garden, the grass and the tree
Gave the lustre of mid-day to what I could see.
When, what to my wondering eyes should arrive,
But a tractor-driven float passing the end of my drive.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the lane
Classic cars lining up for the parade again.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
I saw balloons floating without any sound.

We sprang to our beds, to our kids gave a kiss,
And asleep we all fell with nothing amiss.
But we heard them exclaim as the bunting pulled tight,
“Happy Carnival to all, and to all a good night!”

Make sure you listen in to Channel Radio this morning to hear out publicity officer, Justine, talking to The Community Show about our fantastic Carnival, parade, and the charities we are doing it all in aid of.  Laura and Russell, the presenters, have given us incredible support in the past, and we’re looking forward to seeing them at the Carnival!

Raffle tickets are on sale now

One lucky person is going to win £100 on Carnival Day with our fantastic raffle – and two others will win a second and third prize of £50 and £25 respectively.  Tickets cost £1 each and you can get them from local pubs and shops, and children at St Katherine’s and Halstead schools have been given some to sell as well!  If you can’t get hold of any in advance, there will be some for sale on the carnival field as well – just don’t leave it too late!

The programme has hit the mat

Our team of volunteers have been delivering programmes throughout Knockholt and surrounding areas.  Have you got yours yet?  Make sure you keep hold of it for carnival day, so you can see what is on where,  where to watch the parade from, and which charities it’s all in aid of!

The programme has been put together by Sharon of the Three Horseshoes and we are hugely grateful for the hours she’s put into this.  We are also grateful to all our advertisers:

Without our advertiser we wouldn’t be able to publicise our event, so please make sure you visit them soon!

Carnival Programme cover chosen

In the run-up to Carnival 2016 we asked the children of St Katherine’s to design us a cover for our programme and we had loads of great entries!  We have chosen a winner and will be sending the programmes off to print soon, so please keep an eye out to see if your design was chosen!

We’ll be displaying the entries at the organisers’ tent at Carnival, so make sure you pop by to see them.

Traffic marshals needed for the parade!

Part of our carnival tradition is the parade of floats, which wind their way around the village and end up at the carnival ground. Parades such as this are becoming increasingly rare but we think it completes our celebratory day!

We can’t run a parade though without closing the roads and that means we need your help – we need marshals to guide the floats, keep traffic off the roads, and direct people to the car parks.

Can you help? Please contact chair@knockholtcarnival.org.uk and we’ll be eternally grateful!

We are already looking forward to our Carnival on 9 July, and a large part of that is the parade through the village.  Having now chosen our theme – Cartoons and Comics – we’re taking bookings for floats, cars, marching bands, and even horses!  If you want to know more, then please contact us on floats@knockholtcarnival.org.uk.
